Pineapple juice cures diabetes?
Pineapple juice cures diabetes? Well, actually no – pineapple juice not only does not cure diabetes – it is probably not good for a diabetic to even drink much of it
Diabetes is a disease in which the body is not able to metabolize the glucose in the blood. Type-1 diabetes is caused by the destruction of Beta islet cells in the pancreas which secretes insulin. People with Type-1 diabetes usually need to be on some type of insulin therapy for the rest of their life. Type-2 diabetes is cause by the destruction of insulin receptors on cell surfaces which causes the cells to be resistant to insulin. Type 2-diabetes can be managed with medication and lifestyle changes and often by lifestyle changes alone.
After being diagnosed with diabetes, the diabetic must learn to live with the disease as there is currently no cure. The overall objectives of treatment are to prolong life and improve the quality of life as much as possible. Treatment is directed towards relieving symptoms, improving the body’s ability to metabolize glucose, preventing or correcting the many complications of diabetes and assuring proper nutrition.
Diet and managing diet can play a major role in controlling symptoms of diabetes. Diets for diabetics should be rich in fibers, small amounts of carbohydrates or fats and low in proteins. Foods should also be rich in vitamins, minerals, as well as antioxidants and other factors that boost the immune system. These foods include leafy greens, apples, nuts, whole meal breads and dairy products. Also fresh fruits are good sources of carbohydrates. So, pineapple juice in small quantities as a drink is actually good to have but is not good for the diabetic to drink in large amounts. And there is no home remedy that helps with the symptoms of diabetes or cure for diabetes that this author knows of which includes pineapple juice.
But there are many natural substances that are being studied for the help of controlling symptoms of diabetes. Herbs from the Amazon and China and Asia are being studied for their abilities to control blood glucose levels or improve blood circulation. Another natural substance that is being studied is cocoa. A study conducted in Germany showed cocoa with high flavanol improves cardiovascular health. Doctors are currently researching the chemical that makes chili peppers so hot with mice that have Type-1 diabetes.
Although many of these substances seem to help in controlling symptoms, there is still no cure for diabetes. Billions of dollars are spent every year in working on a cure but there is currently no cure for Type-1 or Type-2 diabetes – only accepted medical standards for controlling symptoms and controlling complications.
